A JOB INTERVIEW - DIALOGUE

John Smith is an English teacher and has come for an interview with a Prague language school for a teaching position. Here is an extract from the interview with the Director of Studies (DOS):

DOS: ‘So I’d just like to start by going over your CV. I just have a few questions I’d like to ask you. You say here that you graduated in Graphic Design. Can I ask you what brought you to the language teaching sector?’

John: ‘It all happened by accident really. The design agency I was working for closed down in the early 1990s due to the recession. So I decided to use that opportunity to travel and live in Europe. I took a course in language teaching here in Prague as a way of making some money on my travels. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the course. I like the contact with people that this profession provides. I also find the English language a fascinating subject to teach.’

DOS: ‘Yes it is, but do you have any experience in teaching Czech students? They find English quite challenging!’

John: ‘No I don’t, but I’m looking for a challenge!’
